Highline Competition

The competition was to re-activate the once defunct Highline, an elevated rail on 10th avenue along Manhattan's west side. The solution was our WAVE, an inviting ribbon of green space that undulated along the linear grid of Manhattan with grassy hills on the rail line, at times covering the old rail and at times exposing the rich history of the rail. The WAVE is a lush sensory experience within what was once a cold urban environment. Access points to the elevated park were designed for universal access with a structure for vertical transportation clad with wooden slats enabling plant growth. It is thought of as an extension of the park up above to the sidewalks below.
